Eldritch - Seeds Of Rage
I won’t bother to dig up the history books of Italian metallers Eldritch again, since most people who are into prog / power metal must have at least heard of the band. Being one of the more successful Italian metal bands, Eldritch have released their 1995 debut album Seeds Of Rage once again. This time with some extra bonus material from their demos. Let’s have a listen. Seeds Of Rage consists of songs of which progressive metal fans will be pleased at first listen. The technical factor is high, rhythms are tight and diverse and melody is there to please even the most hardcore power metal fan. The influences from which Eldritch created their style of music hold names like Queensrÿche, Annihilator, Coroner and Fates Warning. The influences can be heard clearly, although it’s hard to pinpoint exact spots in songs and point fingers towards the particular bands I mentioned above.
The overall song structures are really interesting, think Dream Theater compositions with a little speed/power cherry on top. I’m still trying to figure out of this album is a re-mastering of the original Seeds Of Rage, but if this is the case then the studio has not done too good of a job. The sound of the bonus tracks (from the 1991-1993 demos) is just horrible sometimes, especially the guitar solos.
Overall, I think this album would be a nice addition for the fans of the genre / band who would like to complete their collection, but I think this album lacks a few things (like innovative melodies, modern influences, top-notch sound) to be able to completely please the progressive power fan nowadays. With this in mind, it’s up to you to get this album or not.
