The first band to start the party was the legendary Dutch stonerrock band Astrosoniq, whom haven’t performed live for over one-and-a-half year. Of course they came to offer some new material, which sounded completely overwhelming tonight. The sound they produced on stage was so utterly loud and intense, the entire crowd got sucked into their world of stonerriffs, guitar solos and spacey soundscapes. Their original drummer Marcel van de Vondervoort decided to join the band for this show, despite the fact that he was unable to actually play a bass drum. This problem was solved in an ingenious way, by using a huge ass tom with a subwoofer underneath it which created a similar effect as a bass drum. Hand-handled bass drum, hell yeah! The powerful and convincing performance put up by these guys surely impressed, and it was a good taste of the shows to come of this band later this year. (DemonDust)

After this, there was a small and intimate performance by the impressive musician Duffhües, yet his fragile setting with just a keyboard, acoustic guitar and a microphone missed its goal a bit. The people came for a festival and thus to party, so it was a bit noisy during his performance. Even though I have a deep respect for him and his music, in this environment Duffhües is not really able to give an optimal show. (DemonDust)

A band that can give an optimal performance under these circumstances is Gomer Pyle. Already my third encounter with these Dutch stonerrockers, they once again delivered a nicely executed selection of their Idiots Savants record. Packing a powerful sound, this must be claiming new souls with every show they play. Melodic yet heavy, powerful yet subtle when necessary, basically all the ingredients needed for a good stonerrock band. Executed by quality musicians, the set passed by in a jiffy, making the audience long for more music of these guys.  Be on the look-out as these guys will be playing with most of the Astrosoniq shows later this year. We were having a beer during the set of The Liszt and therefore we don’t know what their set was like. Besides that it was extremely hot in the café of the W2. But after I found out what Dÿse would be like this night I must say the other bands no longer mattered. The band is a straightforward, well structured but chaotic and charismatic noise act from Germany. Imagine The White Stripes times a 1000. Their energy totally blew me away and their funny jokes in between songs gave their show the finishing touch. Containing a drummer and a guitarist the band created such an impressive wall of sound it made almost everybody present in the venue moving. Impressive act I must say! (Buzzin Hornet)
