After seeing Sylosis as a support act of Killswitch Engage back in 2013, i didn't have to hesitate to attend this headline show of the band. The band would play an intimate show on the smaller stage in Patronaat. They would bring Wovenwar as main support act.
As mentioned before Wovenwar was the main support act of the evening. The last time I saw this band I wasn't really impressed by the whole act and tonight I got the same feeling. The band played pretty tight on itself, but when you are a support act for such a "heavy" band, you shouldn't have these build ups in songs without a superb ending. Therefore it was quite hard for the crowd to go insane during this set, although the band got quite some applause after each song. While the set moved on, it was clear that the band could make some mistakes also and that the crowd definitely couldn't wait for Sylosis instead of this band. After about 45 minutes the band left the stage and it was time for a little changeover.
It was really clear that the crowd mainly came to see Sylosis this evening because the crowd almost immediately went insane. I still got the same impression as when I saw them in 2013 with Killswitch Engage, they look and sound a lot like Trivium, but way heavier! It seems that their last record, which was released in January this year, became even heavier. The band played very very tight and it was amazing to see such an intimate show of this band since they can easily fit on a main stage on a great festival in my opinion. The band played a lot of the newer songs, which was good for 60% of their total set. The crowd already knew the songs or didn't seem to care that it was mainly new songs because the mosh pits kept going throughout the whole set. Sylosis played songs such as "Leech", "Teras", "Empyreal" and "Dormant Heart". After nine songs it was time for an encore of one more song and at 10 o'clock everybody left the venue already. It was quite a short set but still it impressed the most people.
It was a fast but good evening and the best thing is that Sylosis is coming back on the 6th of June and wil play on the festival Fortarock in Nijmegen.
