Day 7 – Tuesday August 16th
So, one more day left with Ignite and The Idoru. After this we have to drive back in one day for the Dutch Lowlands festival the following weekend (starts at Thursday night). Again the sky was cloudy and drops came down on a regular bases. Again it wasn’t a lot but I like my festivals filled with sun.
After hanging at the tent, eating our supermarket bread and drinking some beers we walked towards the PestiEst stage were The Idoru was playing. Once again a Hungarian band Metalrage got in contact with. This time it is because guitarist Tibor of Blind Myself also plays in this band. The music can be compared to Ignite but with more complex guitars and as the person who announced the band says; this band is the Hungarian version of the Backstreet Boys. The set of The Idoru was good, refreshing and lovely to watch. When I received the album last year I was amazed by the quality on this disc. The Idoru signed with a label in Germany, toured Japan and Europe and is going on another European trek next month.
After The Idoru we grabbed a bite and prepared for Ignite who were playing the Hammerworld stage. Lead singer Zoli is from Hungary and he was talking Hungarian almost the entire set. Political statements were shouted constantly but the music was as good as usual. When the band started to play their U2 cover the entire tent shouted with him. A Place Called Home was done in Hungarian and the crowd blew away Zoli. As Andras of Superbutt told me, Zoli is American; But he is our American. And that is noticeable when you see metalheads, punkers, hardcore people shouting, jumping and even head banging on the music Ignite produces. After the show the band gave away a signing session and the type of people who wanted to speak with him was amazing. From older people to young ones, everybody wanted a signature.
After Ignite I wanted to go to bed early because we wanted to leave early the next morning. We got up at 8 and it was raining constantly. On the enti9re terrain there was 10 cm of water and after packing everything wet we had to walk through mud and water for 3 km. No problem for Metalrage but hopefully some sun next year!
