Destruction - Thrash Inferno
A little thrash metal evening at Eindhoven’s Dynamo, I was up for that. Unfortunately I missed a whole lot of the bands this evening, I actually just saw two of the five bands there. The ones I missed were Fuelblooded, Izegrim and Dead Head. The ones I did see were Legion of the Damned and the legendary Destruction.
As we entered the venue, Legion of the Damned was already getting ready for their performance. Minutes later, we had beer in a very crowed Dynamo and we were of to some thrash madness. Although I have seen the guys do better than this, it was still a very nice show to see. The guitar and bass were hacking away while the drums were pounding in a tight order, man that guy knows how to use and abuse his pedals! The vocals were occasionally a bit too loud, which made the screams very unpleasant to listen to. Fortunately Maurice also manages some lower screams, so it wasn’t such a big deal. A nice show by a band on the rise.
At first I didn’t feel like watching these guys either, since I have a deep-rooted hate against high male vocals, exceptions excluded. But I had seen Destruction before, and I remembered not getting annoyed at all. So I went inside and was treated to some first class old-skool thrash metal. What if Slayer would have sound like Show No Mercy for their entire career? Then they would be called Destruction. These Germans truly know how to thrash good, with headbanging inducing riffs accompanied by devastating drums and growls, screams, and ballsqueezing yells. I must say that I fell in love a little bit, and I suspect as I find the time and the money, I will buy some of their stuff. Can’t be to expensive anyway, it’s old!
They surely proved that this evening was worth my 14 euros, and it seemed that the entire crowd would agree on that. Next time, I’ll be there again!
