Skip Intro, KYU - Gesel van Gelderland
The night of 20 October 2007 was a glorious night for every music lover from my hometown Barneveld. The band Skip Intro from Barneveld played at a band competition called Gesel van Gelderland in Tiel and they won this competition. Skip Intro is a three-piece band and consists of the members Mo Assem (guitar/vocals), Vincent Vreeke (bass) and Robert Polhout (drums). The music these guys play is a little bit influenced by Foo Fighters amongst others. Skip Intro had to play at 17:45 and besides 40 people from Barneveld there werent many other visitors. Skip Intro had to play as the second of eight bands that night. The band convinced the jury with a very energetic performance, much interaction between them and the audience and solid rock songs. Skip Intro has got one EP with 2 songs on it and besides these songs they played some new tracks which will be on their second EP. Their half-hour set passed by as if it was half a minute. Everybody enjoined the show and eventually there was even a moshpit.
With their first place, they received many prices. First of all they had the opportunity to perform two days later at the radio station Radio Gelderland for over an hour. The band was offered the chance to record one song, which will be on a sampler for over 2.500 people within the music business. Besides these prices they will get at least 5 shows in venues which participated with this competition, they will be in the national final in the famous Melkweg in Amsterdam and they can choose between studio time, band coaching or a professional photo shoot. For a band which doesnt even existed one year ago, Skip Intro has reached a lot already. Theyve played with Livingston (UK), VanKatoen and Osdorp Posse, theyve played at festivals like Huntenpop, Appelpop and Dwergpop and they will be supporting The Answer next Saturday.
KYU also really impressed me with their performance. I heard from some guys before I went to this show that they were really great. I saw them once before this at the Huntenpop festival. When I saw them back then the sound was so fucked up, I walked away. This time the sound was great and the band played really energetic. Too bad the audience was very static. A little bit of headbanging and one drunk guy running around was pretty much al the movement during their set. The nu-death-core of these four guys was really thight and they received the second price. I wasnt impressed by the band who won the third price, With Ice. Their britpop was okay, but I dont like that genre at all so I cant be very positive about it. KYU had the opportunity to choose as second band between studio time, band coaching and a professional photo shoot. With Ice will receive whats is remaining after Skip Intro and KYU picked their prices.
The other bands on the bill werent impressive, so I wont bother you with a long story about them.
Bands on the bill at Gesel van Gelderland were: Skip Intro (rock), Skeletor (metal), KYU (nu-death-core), With Ice (britpop), Mr. Blue Sky (rock with many different influences), Enjoy The Kickback (rock), Harvest Moon (bluesy rock) and Phoenix Park (indie rock).
