Textures, Romeo Must Die, Blowtorch - Rockin’ Amersfoort
The best thing to start your weekend with? Of course, a metal gig. This Friday evening De Kelder in Amersfoort, the Netherlands was the host of three bands, being the locals from Blowtorch, UK’s Romeo Must Die and that Dutch band, Textures. The first band to give act of presence was Blowtorch. That sounds familiar in some way. Torch? Blow job? No, you probably don’t know this band since it was their first gig ever. They were founded earlier this year in Utrecht and have currently one EP released. Their show went fine and if I didn’t know it was their debut, I wouldn’t say it was. The style played was death metal, pretty basic but not amateurish and definitely not boring to watch. The band therefore brought its own lightman with them. Fun to see and a good opener. It would be wise if the band continues to play these kind of gigs so they can get used to perform on stage. (Mindsaver)
Up next was the British metalcore act Romeo Must Die. During their show there was only one problem. As if the singer was Evan Seinfeld from Biohazard himself, he just couldn't stop talking in between the songs. Very annoying when you're not familiar with a band and you only want to be overwhelmed by some heavy music. The songs on the other hand, sounded very solid, powerful and promising. Luckily for me they had a MCD for sale at the merch, so I would have the opportunity to hear their music some more and give them a second chance. Live they weren't what I hoped they would be, but that doesn't instantly mean they write shit of course. (Gilles)
Lately I’ve been thinking if we should continue writing more Textures live reviews or not. With over 20 (!) show reports of this band in our archives, you can doubt the sense of it. Whether one of us visits one of their shows as a fan or just as a spectator, we’re always positive. Not because we get paid for it, cause as an independent metal e-zine, we of course do not accept presents (right?). No but seriously, what else can be said about this great band anymore? I think I’m going to suggest on our next crew meeting not to write Textures reviews until their next album is released, so we can discuss some new things. (Mindsaver)
