Have Heart, Cruel Hand, Carpathian, The Hunger - Hardcore at De Kelder
Some time ago, I had to review The Hunger's MCD for the Dutch webzine Musicfrom.nl. This MCD, Hope Against Hope, made me very curious about their live-show due to the intensity of the album. Fortunately I can say that they deliver the same amount of intensity live as they deliver on their latest release. Especially the title track did great live by the way. The only negative point about the concert was the annoyed guitarist. It was early and the audience wasn't ready to mosh around yet, but this guy wasn't very pleased what that attitude. His reactions were a bit pathetic and also his comments towards the photographers present were just childish. It would have been better if he just would have kept his mouth shut and transformed his frustrations into an even more energetic performance for example. (Gilles)
I had my first encounter with Carpathian when they put on an excellent show as a support act of Parkway Drive, a couple of years ago in Arnhem. Tonight they couldn't get through to me though. They did their thing just as it was supposed to be, but they offered nothing extra. The show contained songs from both their new release Isolation as their previous record Nothing To Lose and furthermore there's nothing worth mentioning about this gig. (Gilles)

This was the first time ever I saw and heard Cruel Hand. Without any prejudice or any opinion at all I watched and listened. On first sight the band is a bit more thrashier than most hardcore bands, so the connection with Municipal Waste is easily made. Even their main guitarist dresses like he was ripped away from any random San Francisco thrash metal band in the year 1982, which kind of confirmed that statement. Which isn’t a bad thing of course. The rest of the audience seemed to enjoy this as well, with as a result; a handfull of moving bodies in the crowd. Since I don’t know any of the tracks it is quite hard to recall which songs they played. I only remember one song, “Dead Weight”, because it made me think of Sepultura’s Refuse/Resist. It’s on their Myspace. And it rocked. They will be back with a bigger fan share behind them. I’m sure of that. (Mordecai)
After having seen Have Heart at Pukkelpop last August, I was really stoked to see these guys playing again. Like most hardcore acts, Have Heart performs better on small stages. Or at least, they say there is a better connection with the audience. To hardcore standards, De Kelder wasn’t very small either, and apparently too big for these bands tonight, because the room was nearly half-full. Have Heart's approach on vocal style may be considered a bit whiny to some. Nevertheless, it’s still great sing-along-hardcore. Tonight was no exclusion. As being the last and “biggest” name on the bill, Have Heart finally managed to really get the crowd going. After playing a nice mix of old and new songs (mostly new, from Songs To Scream At The Sun) and a few talks, the band finished their show. (Mordecai)
