Desensitised - Virus of Violence
Desensitised emerged from Catafalque somewhere around 2001. So far they released two mini-CD’s: Thriving on Carnage (2002) and Bought Beauty (2003) and a split CD with a band whose name isn’t mentioned on the info sheet, nor on the website. Recorded in February 2005, their first full length,Virus of Hate is finally released.

Desensitised describe their music as old school Death Metal with some Grind influences. Since the line between Death Metal and Death Grind is hard to define these days I can find myself in this description. However, Desensitised is not the most extreme or brutal band around and also not the most original. So let’s just say this is brutal Death Metal. Every long-time fan of the genre probably has loads of albums that sound like this in his collection. As do I. But it’s certainly not a bad album. Good old trashing riffs, rumbling bass and pounding drums always does it for me. Nice brutal vocals to complete the brutality. Not only by singer Wilbert, also by female guitar player Susan. She seems to be the driving force behind this band, which is pretty cool I think. There should be more women in Death Metal, showing they can be brutal too!

Virus of Violence is very well produced, clear, but hard hitting. There’s a bonus video for 'Black Gold' on the CD, shot by Lowlife Media on a very cool location. A big field filled with Army Vehicles. The band banging their heads off, in the middle of it. Nice extra!

There’s not much more I can tell you. A nice album only not good enough to become ‘the next big thing’ in Death Metal.
