Napalm Death - Smear Campaign
When I mention Political Unrest, I guess there aren’t many people here, knowing what I mean. Well, today they are better known as Napalm Death and they formed up around 1982. That was 2 years before I first saw the light of day, and practically they are the founders of Extreme metal and Grindcore. Of course, there are still some people speaking of Repulsion, as the first real grindcore band, but I defy this. Napalm Death and Carcass have single-handedly overthrown the punk genre and created somewhat extremer riffs, but still with that punk feeling, thus grindcore was born. Well, I’ve talked enough bollocks now, so let’s continue with the review of Napalm Death’s new album called Smear Campaign.
The record starts out with an intro, and kicks in properly with the second song called ‘Sink Fast, Let Go’ I was totally impressed from the first note, and continued to be until the end of the album. What Napalm Death have done, is going back to their ultimate grindcore roots heard on ‘Scum’ . This means that my ears are treated by some grade A grind with Mark Greenway screaming his lungs out and the whole band giving everything they have. This results in very nice tracks like ‘Freedom Is The Wage Of Sin’, ‘In Deference’ and ‘Shattered Existence’ When I heard this record for the first time, I instantly had the urge to go out, thrashing everything I came across! Man, what a powerful record with a sublime production. Yes, I think you’ll understand that I can really appreciate this record. Not only the production is killer, but the songs are as well. I really can’t say there was a song on this record that really annoyed me.
