Changer - Breed The Lies EP
Last year Metalrage got in contact with the most promising metalband from Iceland; Changer. Back then they sent us their album Scenes, after which the band split up and reformed, keeping only founding drummer Kristjan (who has a really cool beard) and guitarist Johann in the ranks. Now their new EP Breed The Lies is ready to be released.
What we have here is a decent mid-tempo metal release from a country that is named after one of the most horrific natural elements; ice. As I say mid-tempo, I really mean mid-tempo. There are no real slow or fast parts, just easy headbanging tempo’s. Mid-tempo breakdowns mid-tempo thrash riffs, mid-tempo grooving. Not that complicated.
Personally I have a problem with the one-dimensional vocals. There’s just a low grunt, occasionally accompanied by screaming backing vocals from bassist Gisli. Fortunately I’m dealing with an EP so there’s only four tracks, but if it was a full-length I would really get annoyed by it I think.
Well I do believe that the Terrorizer Magazine was right to say that Changer is the most likely to succeed band from Iceland, because in average it is nice to listen to. Very easy to get into, it’s just hard to find something that makes this band stand out from the rest of the world’s metal scene.
