Fear My Thoughts - Vulcanus
This promo of the upcoming Fear My Thoughts record came without any info at all. I could only discover what the band and the new album is called, and that it’s released on Century Media. No tracklisting, line-up or bio. But as soon as I popped the disc in my player I knew why, this stuff will just sell itself!
And why is that? Well, Vulcanus (hahaha, anus…) grabs you from the start until the end and doesn’t even give you enough time to suck it all in. So you have to press play again! Finally, in a world where the market is flooded with metalcore bands, some heavy, some more emo, a band has appeared with it’s own sound. Yes ladies and gentlemen, Fear My Thoughts has it’s own metalcore sound!
This band incorporates the heaviest of metalcore with the most melodious the style has to offer. Their songwriting skills along with the variety they use truly embark on a journey of their own, because I can’t remember the last time when I was this much pleased with a metalcore act. I thought the genre was quite dead, but this band surely has what it takes to breathe new life into the scene. They even manage to add a little black metal here and there, without making it too apparent they’re using that style.
The album sounds very tight and amuses me from start to finish. Also I must mention that they have a great vocalist as well that doesn’t stick to just one sound. The heavy and the mellow parts are handled with equal care, just check out the track on their MySpace and you’ll know what I mean. The only thing that bothers me is that they’ve been around for nine years already, but I haven’t noticed them until now.
It is not hard to see that this band has a bright future ahead of them. I think I will check them out in the beginning of next year when they do a European tour with Kataklysm, because I’m quite curious if they can deliver this stuff just as good live as it sounds on this disc. Metalheads, check out Vulcanus!!!
