The Goods - The Goods
The Goods is a name that certainly doesn’t sound catchy to me. Seeing the name made me think that this was yet another one of those Brit-poprock bands that seem to pop up all over the place nowadays. The Kooks, The Strokes, The Von Bondies…The, the, the…fortunately The Goods isn’t very much like the bands mentioned above so I decided to give it a chance.
And right from the start I’m glad I gave this album a chance. Finally an album that has nothing complicated to it. No stunning solos, no extreme blastbeats or grunting vocals. Just simple rock ‘n’ roll music with influences from punk-, hard- and garagerock.
Production wise there is not a whole to mention either, except from the fact that the sound on this album is raw and unpolished. Therefore the vocals sound like they have been recorded in a room without too much quality recording materials, which is, on the contrary to what is normal, a good thing! Actually, it is exactly the way it should be and definitely convincing to go see these guys live some time. ‘Cause that’s what The Goods is in my opinion; a live band.
People who prefer their music simple, raw and with a high dose of rock ‘n’ roll should definitely give this one a try. I think it will do very well with fans of bands such as AntiProduct. I even dare to say that fans of Motörhead will probably dig this stuff as well. Which must not be seen as much a comparison as a recommendation. If The Goods will play in a bar near your town, just go check ‘em out and enjoy a well-deserved combination of raw rock ‘n’ roll and beer.
