Born To Lose - Old Scars
Old Scars is a special album. Not only does it contain songs from numerous previous releases, it also features non-released rarities as well as brand new tracks. Since I also reviewed the band’s previous release, Sweet Misery, I figured it would be a good plan to find out whether this compilation album is also worth it.

The problem with punk is, as most people will already know, that it’s very hard to find originality in the music. Therefore one shouldn’t judge a band on that. One should judge the music on the amount of passion it comprises. Together with catchy sing-along choruses, a punk band might become somewhat outstanding.

In my opinion, this also goes for Born To Lose. I’m sure that there are lots of bands with some unique twists of their own but in general it’s really not much different from a random-picked punk album if you ask me. It might be my lack of knowledge but I think most people will agree with me.

So, everybody knows punk. Everybody likes to drink beer. Everybody likes to act stupid (once in a while) and everybody likes music. Therefore I tend to say that everybody must like punk every once in a while. And the same goes for me. Too bad that the album lasts for over 45 minutes, ‘cause that’s really too much of the same for me. And because this album contains tracks that were written during several periods in Born To Lose’s career, I came to understand that Born To Lose really didn’t progress much over the years.

Still, it’s probably a true must for every BTL fan and every self-respecting, beer-drinking punk fan will probably get an orgasm of this release as well. It’s not originality but passion that does the trick on this album. Gimme another beer please!
