Model 101 - Demo
This demo Im about to review is the band of our very own editor DemonDust, recently joined by Lukie. It will be pretty hard to review this one objectively, since I obviously hate that little prick, but Ill do my very best!
The first track opens with a lovely violin intro, transforming in some marching sounds. Im not completely sure what the use of it is, since it is a demo, but after a good minute a massive throw down kicks in. The drums build up a tension mainly based on the snare and the sound goes more towards Meshuggah-like bands. This is pretty much the recipe for the songs of Model 101; quite simple slow heavy riffs are alternated with more technical, complicated riffs. Here and there some synths flow in, in a way which reminds too much of Textures.
The production is already of a pretty high standard considering that this is just a home made demo; it has a nice fat and modern sound. They are helped by a drum computer, which is one of the reasons making it sound so fat, so well have to see whether Richie can perform these complicated rhythms live. I heard some good stories about him and theyre just starting to do shows on a regular basis so we can check that out soon. On this very moment that Im writing this review they are opening for Alchemist so thats a pretty damn good start for them. Model 101 also has a good screaming bald guy at their disposal so altogether theyve got good cards in their hands. They have peeked well at Meshuggah-like bands, so their sound is not too original, but it is of a high enough quality to check this one out.
All the three songs on this demo are on their MySpace too by the way, so go take a look now!
