Witch - Paralyzed
At the last edition of the legendary Roadburn festival I encountered a band named Witch, a classic rock band from the US. The band had an amazing shirt for sale (for a description, see the upcoming Roadburn review) which made me check out their show. I wasn’t too impressed, as the festival was already filled with classic rock acts. After the festival I received their second album entitled Paralyzed to review. Will it change my opinion?
I must say: it sort of did. At first listen I wasn’t really touched by their hippie rock, but the more I played it the more it grew on me. The good dose of rock ‘n’ roll, psychedelic elements and nice guitar solos make this album a treat to listen to, if you like your fair share of classic rock of course. The songs vary in tempo, going from slow, stoner-like tracks to almost punk-rock up-tempo rock songs, both capable of holding the listeners attention along the way.
Overall, the production really gives the feel this band performed of the first edition of Woodstock. A great vintage, sleazy production in rock is what Paralyzed offers. Add the spaced out trippy vocals of guitarist Kyle Thomas and the band's quite virtuous guitar work (tremendous solo for the ones who love them) and the fact that the rhythm section returned to their more aggressive punk roots and you’ve got a deadly combination ready to rock with full force.
Well I don’t really need to say more, fans of vintage rock probably know all about this band already. If you dig The Beatles, Jimi Hendrix, The Who and Lynard Skynard combined with a nasty attitude and a good portion of space elements; Witch is your game.
