Two years after their well-received Burn Me Wicked, the guys from Illdisposed are back with their tenth (!) album. With their previous nine releases they certainly made clear they’re only aiming at the top and nothing less. The last two releases were a bit more experimenting and they showed a modern side of the band through them. With The Prestige they “take you back to the mid-nineties with a present day view”. With this CD the band decided to leave the clean vocals, the samples and the synths out and to aim more at the death metal, instead of the melodeath.
Although this record is a bit rawer than its predecessors you can instantly buy this one if you liked 1-800 Vindication and Burn Me Wicked, because The Prestige is a logical continuation of those albums. Opener ‘Let Go’ could have easily been the opening track for any metalcore act. This intro has a really modern sound, but with ‘The Tension’ they immediately show they really can blow you away with their heavy, blasting sound, while keeping an eye on the melodic parts as well. The music played on The Prestige can best be defined as too raw for melodeath and too melodic for pure death metal.
With a pounding rhythm section, some great melodic guitar solos and the mighty voice of Bo Summer you’ve definitely got your success formula. If you weren’t really convinced of this “Danish Dynamite” already you will probably be after hearing this new effort. Great songs, a powerful production and a more than decent way to train your neck muscles!
