From First To Last - From First To Last
After the release of Dear Diary, My Teen Angst Has A Bodycount a couple of years ago, I’ve always been really curious to FFTL’s next album. For some reason I missed out on Heroin, which makes this self-titled album the first effort to carry some new FFTL music for me. Still, I was a little skeptic since vocalist Sonny left the band, ‘cause guitarist Matt Good took over vocal duties. I’ll tell you right away; Matt Good convinced me of his vocal capabilities in no time! No way you should be skeptic ‘bout that! This self-titled album is definitely a great addition to your collection if you already were into From First To Last. Every song on the album is catchy and after hours the melodies are still stuck in your head. You may not like it, but I think you’ve done a good job when you get people to sing along with your songs after hearing them only once.
Musically this album is more than alright, although I have the feeling it’s a little less complex than Dear Diary… Then again, it makes the music easily accessible yet heavy enough to make you jump around your room. When it comes to the vocals however, I’ve gotta admit that I’m just really surprised by what I’m hearing. I mean, after hearing Mr. Good filling in on vocals a couple of years back because of a throat infection of Sonny, I really was a little disappointed. But this album once again proves that people can definitely develop their skills.
Anyways, there’s really not that much to tell you about this album. It’s emo, yeah! And that scares a lot of people off. So what?! Then don’t listen to it. But if you’re into emo, be sure to check out FFTL ‘cause they know how to make some damn catchy music!
