Made Out of Babies - The Ruiner
Made Out Of Babies is a unique rock/metal band, fronted by the female vocalist Julie Christmas. They were just over here in Europe in support of their third album The Ruiner, which is about to be reviewed here. A review for one of the shows is also online at this site. Let’s see how the songs sound on record.
Made Out Of Babies is a very intense band, but not in the manner of aggression. Grooving rock and metal riffs are altered with spacey passages in which the guitar has a very dominant role, for it is loaded with tons of effects. The songs all have strong emotional layers that make a deep impression on the listener. Key factor in this band is Julie Christmas, who is one of the most psychotic vocalists I have ever heard (and seen). This woman is the personification of utter paranoia in vocals. She can sound extremely depressed as well as hysteric and utterly pissed off. A real treat to hear someone so involved in the emotional charge of her lyrics.
The record definitely shows progression compared to the first one (I still haven’t heard the second one yet), so fans of the previous material can probably pick this one up without hearing it first. Personally I think this band sounds better in a live environment, but the record is certainly a great thing to listen to as well. Check them out if you’re in for a different sound.
