Mendeed - Best Of
Just recently I reviewed two of Mendeed’s re-release albums. Can’t say I was pleasantly surprised, but the albums were certainly not a complete waste of time. Now Rising Records comes up with yet another not-too-new album. Actually it’s a best of album. That most of the times means something pretty fuckin’ good. So let’s roll!

Guess what?! This album actually kicks ass! It immediately made me wonder why we first received two reissues ‘cause compared to this best of album, they were a waste of time/money. This best of contains some very strong songs. There’s so many influences to be found in the music, you just can’t be bored by this. Let me state a quote by the band here (with which I pretty much agree of course): “We’re modern metal with a classic twist. Blending elements of thrash, hardcore, power metal, old school, black metal, battle metal, death metal and even a bit of rock ‘n’ roll. Sweeping solos, lightning drumming, angry vocals and huge choruses.

I say: Amen! Couldn’t have said it any better. One must have a hard time sitting still while listening to this album and I immediately regret the fact Mendeed is history as we speak. Seriously, if you ever doubted whether or not to check out some Mendeed material, check out this album. There’s enough to discover and – dare I say it – this is metal the way it should be – although in a pre-mature stage. The only downside to this album is that the production quality isn’t that good. But hey, it brings you a nice feeling of nostalgia.

The album is a very pleasant surprise after having heard two reissued albums recently. The production quality as well as the musical skills have become better on this one. Give it a try if you like your metal varied and with a raw edge.
