Bowtome - Killer
The South German band Bowtome has been around since 1998, yet they’ve released their very first full length album in the Summer of last year. This record is entitled Killer and it's filled with old school death metal. Let’s see if they have anything to add to the genre.
The record is divided in three parts. The first part consists of seven new tracks dedicated to dear ol’ mister Ted Bundy. The second part is entitled War & Amok and features two tracks which were released as rough mixes via their website earlier in their career. The third chapter are studio recordings of a couple of tracks featured on their 1999 live demo album Cum On Me. Great title, if you’re a woman or a gay man.
Well the music offers nothing more than you’re basic old school death metal. Fast riffing, mid-tempo grooves and brutal breakdowns, but nothing out of the ordinary. Just a mediocre tribute to the legends of the eighties and nineties. Overall you can hear everything pretty decently in the mix, but the sound as a whole fails to really make a lasting impression on me. In fact it becomes quite boring to listen to after a while.
Well, the average death metal head will probably enjoy listening this once or twice a year, but that’s it. It brings nothing new to the table, yet you can’t really call it bad. Personally I think I can spend my time better than to listen to Bowtome’s ‘Killer’ record.
