Sights & Sounds - Monolith
Sights & Sounds is a post-hardcore/punk band which features members of renowned acts like Comeback Kid, Sick City and Figure Four. This full length record entitled Monolith has been produced by Devin Townsend. All this information lead to me having high expectations of this band. A brief listen at their MySpace convinced me to review this record. Was it a good choice?
Fuck no! Even though this band manages to produce some smooth, spacey post-punk/hardcore music, one key element fucks it up. The vocals. They are so annoying I just can’t listen to the whole anymore. Not at all times though, but most of the time. And it sucks. It has this emo vibe going on that doesn’t sound sincere (well, emo basically never sounds sincere) and just pisses me off like hell. Especially the waaa waaa ending of the track ‘Shudder, St. Kila’, bite me dude!
Well, I guess I was just the wrong pick to review this record. There are some moments that I think it is all going to be okay, yet they fail me every time. Overall the record has an excellent (and I mean EXCELLENT!) production and some reasonable although not entirely convincing songs on it but I just don’t believe it. It all sounds so fake and plastic it makes me want to punch somebody. And that’s not the point when one makes pop-rock right? That’s why man created metal. How ‘bout some of that music… RIGHT NOW!
And before I forget it, the band name sucks too! :)
