Death Before Dishonor joined the Bridge Nine roster about four years ago. Since then they’ve played almost a 1,000 shows all over the world and when they weren’t touring they were writing new songs. For example: in support of their 2007 record Count Me In they did - in Europe only - a tour with Terror and Ignite, they were part of the Persistence Tour 2007 and they did two headlining tours. The songwriting resulted in two full-lengths and two 7’’s. This past July they released their third album Better Ways To Die, so they could get back on the road again.

 

The comparison is old already, but it still stands: these guys mix the harder punk edge of Rancid, the working class anthems of Dropkick Murphys, the hardcore of Hatebreed and the riffs of Slayer into their own Bostonian hardcore sound. Some songs, like ‘Peace & Quiet’ and ‘Remember’, have a more melodic approach than you might aspect of them though. Furthermore there is not a single bas track on this record. Personal favorites are ‘Better Ways To Die’, which is about war and the many deaths that it causes, and ‘Our Glory Days’. Maybe some people will like their rougher earlier albums more but in general you can say this is their best album they’ve released so far.

 

This week they ended their first European headlining tour after the release of Better Ways To Die and Metalrage was present in Amsterdam (review here). Knowing them they will probably be back soon. Therefore: 1. Buy this record. 2. Learn the lyrics. 3. Have a great night moshing and singing along with these guys from Boston during any particular show.
