Y.O.C. - Thrash a'head
This will be one of the shortest reviews I've done because there isnt much to tell about a 2-track disc. I will refer to my other Y.O.C. review if you want some more background information: http://www.metalrage.com/reviews/265
Thrash a'head contains two songs, Flotsam & Jetsam's "Suffer the Masses" (The original appears on "When the storm comes down") and Slayer's "Season in the Abyss" (from Seasons in The Abyss). I didnt receive any information why these two songs got covered, and where they are going to end up. Maybe on a compilation or something? As with the "Sanity Within EP", the playing of the band and the production is very decent! The instruments have a good thrash-metal sound to them, which I prefer compared to some of the "over-engineered" sound some bands seem to have these days. The band pretty much play the songs the same as with the orignials, so no suprises there. Vocalist Yalin does a good job, altough I would like to hear some more "im pissed off!" edge to his singing...its thrashmetal, not powermetal! I do have to say that his voice might not be the perfect match for these songs if you compare them to the originals, since Yalin has a very typical style of singing, which people either like or dislike.
It is hard to rate this disc. I`m giving it a 66 because the execution of the songs is good, but Y.O.C. could use some more old school thrash anger! And when is that full-lenght coming?
