Godsmack - Faceless
Godsmack has waited long before they released their 3th album and the follow-up on Awake, which was released in 2000. 3 years of work have been put in this new album and hopefully we'll hear it. The disc starts with Straight Out Of Line, which sounds quite good, but not really new. The structure of the song is quite the same as the songs on Awake, and nothing new has been put in it. But that doesn't mean that the song is bad! Like most Godsmack tracks it has a high headbang rate and some nice catchy riffs. The title track Faceless is a song with building speed and riffs which sound deep and low. The vocals have that typical Sully Erna voice, which is very easy to recognize. While the speed on the album isn't that high, the guitar solo's and the listenability of the tracks are quite nice. Songs like Changes, I Fucking Hate You and Realign are some of the better tracks on the album because of the nice structure of the songs. I stand alone, which is the soundtrack for the movie The Scorpion King is included on this album, although most people have heard that song quite a lot, but it still rocks. A nice pauze in the album is the song The Awakening, which is an intro for the last song called Serenity, a very slow and easy listening song which is almost to describe as pop. Sully goes over his top with his clean voice and I must say I favoured this song above most others. I must say I'm a bit disappointed because I expected more of 3 years work. I cannot say this album is worthless but it isn't a top product either. People who like the more slow work on the 2 previous albums, will like this album, but if you expect songs like Awake or Whatever you'll be cheated.
