Manntis - Sleep In Your Grave
Manntis is a five piece band from the Riverside County area of Southern California. You might already know this band from the ‘Battle for Ozzfest’ series that were broadcasted by MTV.  If so, you probably already noticed that this band has got a lot of potential. Many bands have influenced the members through the years including Pantera, Lamb of God, Hatebreed, Boy Sets Fire, Zao, Poison the Well, Meshuggah and Killswitch Engage. Attractive enough for me to check this shit out!

‘Sleep In Your Grave’ kicks in with a powerful song called ‘Axe Of Redemption’ (of which the new video has just been released). This band seems to be full of energy and I can clearly notice that this band enjoys every single second they play. You get that typical hardcore/metalcore feeling when you listen to this album, purely because this band literally attacks you with a nice amount of typical hardcore breakdowns. Now that’s how I like it!

Guitar solos are also something you won’t miss on this album. They might be short but they’re on it! The drums aren’t that special to me although I like the fact that I hear some double bass parts in the music now and then. That’s always a good thing!

Although I miss something at the vocal part, they’re convincing enough for me. Again, the word powerful is what fits best here. The thing is, I’d like to see a bit more variation in them on the next album. Just to keep the listeners attention a bit more. A good thing that helps to keep the attention at the end of this album is the last track, ‘The Ends Where It  Begins’. An acoustic track on an hardcore/metalcore album…original and well performed. Nice job guys!

If you became interested in this band, then check out the song ‘A New Breed Of Life’. For me, this song shows the most skills of Manntis in one song. Mainly because this song contains a hardcore breakdown and also some clean vocals. Which you don’t hear on the rest of the album. Of course you can also check out ‘Axe Of Redemption’. If you dig this song, you’ll definitely dig the whole album. One thing I’d like to add: the album lasts for only 29 minutes. Hopefully the next one will be a bit longer!
