Fall Of Serenity - Bloodred Salvation
As I read the bio of this band I realized that I had actually seen these Germans perform (at least that’s what I think) with Dismember some time ago. Back then I thought it pretty much sucked, so I was quite curious to find out what they had recorded for this album.

After a two minute intro that has a pretty cool riff in the end we are treated to an album full of melodic thrash-death metal. The band it reminds me the most of is Dew-Scented, only a little softer and more melodic, and with some occasional digital effects. That comparison isn’t that odd, when you conclude that they’ve played numerous shows with Dew-Scented, and vocalist Leif does a couple of guest appearances on this Bloodred Salvation. Most of the more melodic parts remind me a bit of a weaker version of In Flames.

The variation between hard and melodic is quite well balanced, and the songs are written pretty well. But what bothers me is the fact that there isn’t that much originality on this disc, which is a common illness in the genre of death metal. I like most of the heavier and brutal parts, but the melodic stuff bores me quite quickly. Fortunately there are no emo vocals to support them, it’s all grunts and screams. And just on those moments when you’re starting to get annoyed by his voice Leif steps in to add a little variation in vocal sounds.

Well there certainly are some nice songs on this disc, and if a combination of Dew-Scented and In Flames sounds interesting to you maybe you should give it a try. For me it’s partially enjoyable, but still with that thirteen-in-a-dozen feeling in my stomach.
