Skip The Rush - A smelly show in Plein 79
Metalrage.com has known Skip The Rush for quite some time now. The first time we witnessed this band live was during the ‘Popronde’ in Plein 79 (Den Bosch). Just before my snowboard vacation I got the opportunity to see the band once again in this pub. Just before I had a short conversation with the guys and due to the great show and audience they had last time they were looking forward to this gig for many weeks.
The pub Plein 79 was announcing the following on their website: ‘If we got the opportunity to add one band to the bill of Lowlands, it would be Skip The Rush’. Although I have been to this pub many times I never once heard a song of this band and I gave them the album personally. Due to this lack of playing the crowd was minimal this night, and things were only starting. Right after the kick-off the venue slowly started to flood, because it is in a basement the toilets leaked a lot of water into the place.
Luckily enough the electronic equipment was on the stage so the band could play their entire set without interruptions. En even though the smell was awful, the people who were present clearly enjoyed the music which was played that night. I saw the band the weekend before this gig on the Noorderslag in Groningen but I just love to see a band like this play in a small venue and in some way the Oosterpoort wasn’t as comforting as this place.
When I look back to the smelly night I remember a great last evening in the Netherlands before I went to France for a week of snowboarding. Skip The Rush will always be one of my favourite Dutch bands around and if I get the chance to see them once again, I surely will!
